Maison Goossens is a prominent haute couture jewellry maker based in Paris, founded in 1950 by famous goldsmith Robert Goossens. It produces high-end jewelry for premium brands such as Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Balenciaga etc. Goossens was involved into Chanel House in 2005. The Goossens Book came out as an object resulted from the Editorial Workshop done at SPD. The book aims at telling the story of Goossens brand to its customers and appreciating its roots and high-quality. Typographic choices, paper quality and the layout determined a high quality book to be sold in Fashion, Design and Art Book Stores at a high price. The special craftmanship and expertness were the focus keywords of this project.
Icylogy is a fictional skin care brand. It masters the science of beneficial glacial skin care. Icylogy brings the freshness of the glaciers to the skin with its scientifically proven, dermatologically tested formulas. The brand values are purity, Freshness, therapy, naturality, femininity and high quality.
Anxious Forever is a brand appealing to students and young graduates. Its mission is helping students to cope up with “useless anxiety” that is caused by the exams, presentations, carreer worries etc. Brand’s approach to mitigate these useless worries is using irony, humor and fun. Anxious Forever offers various objects for daily life use, in order to remind the students that their worries are temporary. The visual language is identified as repetition, since the anxiety we are talking about is in an exaggerated form. In the same sense, the slogan of the brand is ironic: make it big deal.
Redesign of poker cards are inspired by nature. Illustrations have organic lines. Each card have different illustration that include natural elements or events. Illustrations do not change in different suits, in other words, each cards is recognazible by its illustrations, and suit symbol. Different suits have different colors and the suit symbols have wavy organic edges. The strongest cards, A, J , K and Q have more unique and complex illustration structure in order to reflect the strength of the card.
Citylicious is a fictional brand of Algida. It is offering popsicles for young and curious city explorers. Each packaging have a different city theme and a corresponding flavor. There are four flavors: ‘Sunbaked Rome’ for orange, ‘Fresh Istanbul’ for mint, ‘Sweet Madrid’ for Madrid, ‘Soothing Budapest’ for Budapest and ‘Tales of the Cities’ for the mixed packaging that includes all the four flavors inside. Packaging designs and color palettes are derived from the city textures, colors and atmospheres.
If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler is a classic postmodern book by the Italian writer Italo Calvino. The book story has a repetitive structure in tone. Reader is the main character, who experiences excitements and disappointments in pursuit of continuing the book he just started. My concept of design is reflecting this monotonus structure which alternates between excitement and disappointment. For this purpose, all the spaces between paragraphs and chapters are removed. There is one thing that changes: bold letters for the chapters where the reader is excited, and lighter letters for where he is disappointed.
This is an identity design project on Europe. It was accomplished through a team work. The process of branding Europe started with a deep research on different aspects of the continent. The main purpose was finding common characteristics that can unify the continent. Subsequently, the focus became the maps of European cities, since most of them have similar circular layouts. The layouts of the cities led us to a deeper research on Europe’s city building knowledge. Finally, we came up with the idea of branding Europe under its urban knowledge that comes from the history, since the settlement of first city structures. We found an institute that can represent Europe’s urban planning expertise to the world. IUPI (International Urban Planning Institute) is an institute about European urban planning. It cosists of the consultancy, the institute and the museum. It is a place for learning, sharing and exploring the knowledge of European urban planning. The visual language came out as overlap of layers, since layers exist both in city structures and in urban planning profession.
This is the 2017 catalogue of Hyphen Press. The concept is showing the press as bold and transparent in their statements. The concept is applied through transparent papers and the typography.
First Things First is a Manifesto written in 1964 by various graphic designers, photographers and design students. The Manifesto was rewritten in 2000. The booklet of First Things First includes the two versions of the manifesto and an article written in 1999 to criticize. The concept of the booklet is showing the manifestos in a classical book format. For this purpose, Sabon, a serif typeface from 1960’s was used throughout the booklet. In addition, chapter beginnings and the signers as footnotes are arranged according to a book format.
Tamil is the Indian script used in many regions. The booklets contain information about Tamil’s alphabet structure, its history, as well as the usage of Tamil typography. The purpose was using the right typography and layout in the booklet, that can respresent the Indian culture in the best way.
